The seven-member national caretaker committee inaugurated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been assigned portfolios. Ahmed Makarfi was assigned the chairman of the party while Ben Obi was appointed as secretary.
Dayo Adeyeye will be replacing Olisa Metuh as the national publicity secretary and Aisha Aliyuwill be in charge of women and youth.
Ex-Senator Abdul Ningi will manage organization and mobilization, Odion Ogbesia will be in charge of finance, treasury, and audit while Kabir Usman was assigned the legal unit.
The portfolios were announced on Thursday, June 9, at the maiden meeting of the staff of the party’s national secretariat and the Peoples Democratic Institute with the national caretaker committee.
A statement signed by head of publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, read: “The National Chairman of the Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, reiterated that the Committee will not exceed the period given to them by the National Convention to reorganize, reform and conduct a free, fair, credible and all inclusive National Convention.”
The caretaker committee was constituted on Saturday, May 21, at the party’s national convention which held in Port Harcourt. They were formally inaugurated on Tuesday, June 7, with only two functions mentioned which were: the chairman, Makarfi and the secretary, Obi, while other members of the Committee had no portfolios assigned to them.
The caretaker committee was appointed because a vacuum was created in the party after Ali Modu Sheriff was sacked as its national chairmen.
They will manage the affairs of the party for the meantime. However, Sheriff has refused to accept his removal as national chairman of the party.
He told a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, that he is still the national chairman of the party.
