The National Environmental Standards Regulatory and Enforcement Agency (NESREA) on Tuesday sealed off nine quarries located in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The state coordinator of NESREA, Mrs Angela Iwobi, who led the team that effected the closure, said the enforcement was sanctioned by the law establishing the agency and the International Treaty on Environmental Law.
“What we have done is in line with the law setting up NESRA and in compliance with the international treaty on environmental law, which Nigeria is a signatory to,” Iwobi said.Follow us on Twitter at @Riverinenews
