In a truly epic U-turn, Microsoft has decided that its ‘unlimited’ OneDrive cloud storage service is, er, limited.
To be fair, some users had got a bit cheeky – including one who had stored 75 TERABYTES in OneDrive.
The computer giant is now capping OneDrive cloud storage to one terabyte, saying a ‘small number’ of users abused the plan.
In a blog post, the company said: ‘Since we started to roll out unlimited cloud storage to Office 365 consumer subscribers, a small number of users backed up numerous PCs and stored entire movie collections and DVR recordings.
‘In some instances, this exceeded 75 TB per user or 14,000 times the average.
One customer responded: ‘Why punish everyday subscribers for those that are abusing your system with possibly illegal content. This is a huge back down.’
