Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has upbraided the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for faulting the Supreme Court’s verdict which upheld the election of River State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said Oyegun’s statement, branding the Supreme Court’s verdict in Wike’s favour as rather ‘astonishing,’ was capable of desecrating the temple of justice.
Fayose also hailed the Supreme Court for upholding the victories of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State and and his counterpart in Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel, saying the judgments were triumph of patriotism over dictatorship and harassment, which he said had been the hallmark of APC-led federal government.
He noted that all hope was not lost as far as people see the judiciary as their last hope.
He commended the justices of the Supreme Court for determining to dispense justice without fear or favour despite subtle intimidation and harassment.
“One may initially think Oyegun was merely lamenting their loss as a politician who has the interest of the people at heart. But going down his speech, the real motive for their desperation to win some states through the back door was exposed.
“His lamentation that the loss of an oil-rich state, no matter who low the price of crude oil is, revealed their greed. They are not after the welfare of the people, but are concerned with what they would gain from the commonwealth of the people. Nigerians can now see that they have nothing to offer, but are only after the ‘spoils’ of what they think they can get illegally,” he said.
